The herring fleet in the fishing villages along the coast is made ready for the annual hunt for Hollandse Nieuwe. Because there is a pay dispute between the fishermen and the ship owners at the time they were filming, there are no shots of luggers etc. leaving the harbour and sailing to the fishing grounds like in other years. SHOTS: - The fishing nets are spread out on the ground in the dunes near Scheveningen(?); fishermen's wives mend the nets; - men arrive with horse-and-carts, roll up the nets and collect the rolled up nets in the cart; - preparations are made in the harbour: still in rolled up state, the nets are rolled aboard the ships via wooden rolls; tuns and barrels are rolled over the quay and also taken aboard the ship via a plank, where they are stored on deck; - the ships are painted; - the ships lie dressed in front of the shore on 'Vlaggetjesdag' (Flags Day); many people on the quay come by to take a look; - after Vlaggetjesdag the fishing boats quietly lie empty (no crew visible on board) and undecorated side by side in the fishing port of Scheveningen(?); on the quay are just a few fishermen.
Note : The card system of Polygoon states the location is IJmuiden; however, the footage clearly shows shots of fishermen and fishing boats from Scheveningen.
