After the last part of the east line of the underground is finished, the residential area the Bijlmer in Amsterdam Southeast has a direct connection to the Central Station. There was a lot of resistence against the construction of the underground line, which can now be seen on big photo panels at Nieuwmarkt station. SHOTS: underground drives past block of flats in the Bijlmer; passengers in the underground; photopanels at Nieuwmarkt station; square in front of the Central Station; route of the underground. ARCHIVE MATERIAL: resistance against the demolition of houses necessary for the construction of the underground in the Nieuwmarkt area. The extension took place on 13 October 1980.
