Education in Suriname, a.o. in former plantation houses and a shaved ice vendor during the break. In the rice district a new school has been opened at the former plantation De Nieuwe Grond (The New Soil) for the children of Hindu farmers from the surrounding area who cultivate rice. There are a lot of empty seats in the classroom, because many children have to help plant the rice.
