Celebration of Emancipation Day on the Oranjeplein in Paramaribo on the occasion of the abolition of slavery 100 years ago. Governor Archibald Currie and Prime Minister Johan Adolf Pengel deliver speeches in the rain. In the afternoon Pengel visits three women who are over a 100 years old. They've witnessed the abolition and are therefore called the crown witnesses of the emancipation.
