170 cyclists start in Helmond for the fourth Amstel Gold Race, with a.o. Eddy Merckx (Belgium), Arie den Hartog, René Pijnen and Guido Reybroeck. Some cyclists have trouble with their bicycle during the race. Because of the bad and cold weather 136 cyclists don't finish the race. Reybroeck wins the race. Just like the other cyclists, he is freezing and wet when he finishes.
