The Central Station in Amsterdam, which was designed by Cuypers, was brought into use sixty years ago. Impression of the daily routine at this station. SHOTS: - ext. station; several shots of throngs of passengers: they enter and exit the station; walk through the central hall; stand in line for the ticket offices and buy tickets; walk through the tunnels and across the platforms; - several shots of the railway personnel: ticket salesman with ticket machine; stationmaster holds up his sign; in an office the head office chief Putman deliberates with his people; mechanics work on the overhead wire; railway workers inspect a switch, check the wheels of a steam locomotive with a can of lubricant oilor fill the tender of a steam locomotive with water, maintain the rails; a shunter hangs from the cabin of a passing locomotive; in the large signal box a man operates the switches of the electrically operated switches and the signals; in the disturbance bureay men observe the train service on a large board, which is made visible with indicator lights in a diagram; - several shots of trains entering and leaving the station; steam trains as well as electrical trains.
