Because of the cuts in spending in 1957, the construction of the IJtunnel in Amsterdam has stopped and the building site is covered in weeds. In the railway above the building site movable bridges have been placed and the Wibautstraat, the eastern access road that connects to the tunnel, is almost finished. At the Weesperstraat the road narrows, but the houses that are still there are being demolished. Also aerial shots of the IJ in Amsterdam and Amsterdam North on the other side. At the Central Station, people change from the tram to bus K to the De Ruyterkade. There they change to the ferry that sails the other side, where they change to the bus. Cars drive via a detour to the bridge across the IJ near Schellingwoude.
