Because of the hard winter the inland navigation has been shut down. In the Hollands Diep, the Nieuwe Merwede and the Waal icebreakers try to make the water passable again for Rhine barges and also make sure no ice dams form near the bridges. The 60-year-old steam tug Christiaan Brunings works near the bridge in Gorcum.
