Week number 50-45
Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
After the war the use of electricty increased enormously. At certain fixed times every 24 hours the maximum amount of electricity is consumed. For the power plants, that clould not renewed and expanded during and because of the war, the demand is becoming too much. That's why people are asked during a national campaign to use as little electricity as possible during the so-called peak hours. These are roughly between 7am and 8am and 4:30pm and 6pm. In this report more on this campaign. SHOTS: Ext. and int. power plant; - power pylons in the fields; - a kilowatt-hour meter indicates the increase and decrease of the use of the electricity; - causes of the increasing consumption are shown: the increasing population; the expanding industry; electrification fo the railways; - a diagram shows the peak hours; - a man in pyjamas (Henk van Ulsen) is shaving himself in front of the mirror and warms his feet with an electrical stove; the commentator asks him to turn this off; - two housewives are asked in the same manner to do the vacuuming and ironing at another time; - ditto: a man comes home and enters the living room; at the request of the commentator he doesn't leave the light in the hallway on, but switches it off ; -ditto: a family in a living room all have their own sperate light; when requested they all sit around a central table lit by one light; - in the power plant an employee checks the meters and switches off the main switch; the lights in the plant switch off and at home the people are lit by candles; - constriuction activities are shown: mechanics worken on a new power pylon; the steel frame of the newly build power plant is already up.
