Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
Breach in the dike along the Muntendamerdiep near Zuidbroek in Groningen. SHOTS: - they try to mend the hole in the evening: lit by floodlight, soldiers throw sandbags, stones and pieces of rubble into it. But the hole remains; - the next day the amount of damage is visible: the land is flooding, farms become isolated. Because the water only rises slowly, there is still time for a rescue operation: the inhabitants of the farms, who were evacuated, return to get personal belongings and safeguard the agricultural products. They wade throuhgh the water with wheelbarrows filled with household goods and shovel pitted potatoes on a cart. Pairs of horses, half in the water on the swampy ground, pull the carts away; - footage of the floodings in the south of the country: the flood-meadows and farmlands along the Maas are flooded; a boy cycles by it.
