Activity in the harbour of Vlaardingen during the arrival of the first herring. SHOTS: - harbour, where the fishing boat ("VL 114") with the first herring aboard is moored; - barrel of herring is lifted out of the hold and is rolled ashore over a gangplank; - cart with a number of barrels of herring is pushed and pulled forward; - (high camera angle) space, filled with barrels of herring, where men open the barrels, medium shot of a man opening a barrel and pushing the herring under water; - close up of a man eating herring in the traditional way; - man handing out herring to the eager bystanders.
