Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
On November 1, 1944 the troops of the British Fourth Commando, a.o. existing of English and French soldiers, landed on Walcheren. Now, in 1952, the Minister of War, C. Staf, unveils a statue made by Titus Leeser to commemorate the fallen on the same spot. Present are a.o. many old fighters of the cammando and their old commander, general Leicester. This newsreel contains historical archive material. SHOTS:- An English and a French warship drop the old fighters at the harbour of Vlissingen; the men go ashore, gather on the quay and then march in formation through the streets; - at the commemoration site the men, some of them heavely decorated, stand to attention together with the present soldiers; - Staf unveils the statue; - a soldier sounds "The Last Post"; - ext. monument; - Leicester (in civilian clothing) lays a wreath at the statue and salutes; 00:51 ARCHIVE MATERIAL: - landing crafts with soldiers sail in the Westerschelde; tracked vehicles roll onto the dyke; soldiers wade from the lading crafts through the water, climb the dyke and advance on teh land; 00:31 close-up Leicester.
