Week number 53-50
Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
Because of the drought in many parts of Europe and also in the Netherlands the water level of the rivers and the groundwater has dropped considerably. Especially in the east of the country some wells have gone dry, forcing the local authorities to supply the water from elsewhere. The low water level especially has severe consequences for the shipping. Because of the low water level, a lot of inland vessels can only be loaded by a maximum of half their normal capacity. SHOTS: measuring the water level from a boat and reading off the water level from the banks of the river; woman gets bucket out of a dry well and to water pump; women and children on the road with bucket and big pans of water; inland vessels on the Rhine; dry bed of the Rhine; a ship stranded because of the low water level.
