Two officers of the Air Force establish a new Dutch air speed record for airplanes with a Gloster Meteor jet on a track of 3km above the beach of Ameland. Footage of the technical preparations and the actual record attempt. PREPARATIONS: - aerial shots of Ameland, filmed from the cockpit of the fighter jet; - on the ground soldiers install several portable radio equipment; unroll telephone cables; put up film camera's and equip a mobile head radio post; - Wansink and Flinterman look at the preparations of the ground crew and make a reconnaissance flight above the track; RECORD ATTEMPT: - airplane takes of from the runway at air base Leeuwarden; - at Ameland a ground crew fires flares with a signal pistol; - fighter jet makes four runs above the beach and afterwards lands at Leeuwarden; 02:04 Wansink (left); Flinterman (right).
