Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
A boarding school for bargees' children is opened in Amsterdam. The idea is that the children receive a steady education, which they can't have when they stay aboard with their parents. For this reason the boys and girls stay at the boarding school whilst their parents are sailing. During the day they go to a 'normal' local primary school, just like the other children. SHOTS: - inland vessels sail by; - children aboard: boy at the helm; boy helps his father by scrubbing the deck or cleaning the hull; boys saw and splitting firewood; girls help their mother do the laundry or peeling potatoes; - children play leapfrog on the banks; - ext. + int. boarding school: boys and/or girls read, play cards, tinker, play draughts, play with dolls, cuddle a little dog; - the bargees' children leave the boarding school in a long line and walk, guided by an adult, across the street to the Willem de Clerq school; - students at work in the class room: geography, drawing, reading, writing on the blackboard.
