Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
In the Large Room in the Zoo in The Hague the last rounds of the world chess tournament are played. Contestants are M. Euwe, M. Botwinnik, S. Reshevsky and W. Smyslov. SHOTS: - employees get the still empty room ready for the tournament: chairs and tables for the audience and contestants, also chessboards, chesspieces and the large demonstration boards; the chess clocks are synchronized; - the audience and the contestants enter the room; on stage the men shake eachothers hands; - Smyslov makes the first move in his match against Euwe; - Reshevsky does the same against Botwinnik; - the audience in the room joins the match with their own chessboards; - the tournament results are ditributed by journalists via telephone, teletype and telex in the press room.
